UK-based oil exploration company Tullow Oil, the lead explorer in Uganda, says the company is close to getting an approval from Uganda who had just re-elected Yoweri Museveni as the country's president, for a 10 billion dollars project and will start exploiting oil and gas in 2012. According to Tullow, Uganda has an estimated 2.5 billion barrels of oil, with some 1 billion barrels proven already. On 24 February 2011, Uganda's main opposition leader Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), who is claiming the elections were a 'sham' after losing the Presidential election to the incumbent Yoweri Museveni, has called for the peaceful protests against the outcome of the elections.
